Welcome back to House of Leadership. We explore what it really takes to grow and lead successfully in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
We publish every Thursday and Sunday.
Thursdays are deep and tactical, practical frameworks, real examples, and leadership tools you can use immediately. Sundays are calm and reflective, with one book, one visual, and one question to sharpen how you think. Thursday builds your capability; Sunday builds your perspective.

📘 Never Split the Difference - Chris Voss

The big idea
People don't close deals with logic. They close them with emotion. The best negotiators make the other side feel heard, before anything else.
Never split the difference
A 50/50 compromise sounds fair. But it's lazy. Both sides anchor on positions, meet in the middle, and walk away with less than they needed. Real deals come from understanding, not splitting the gap.
Three core moves
Tactical empathy, see the world from their side. Calibrated questions, ask "how" and "what", never "why". Mirroring, repeat their last few words. Watch them keep talking.
"No" is the start, not the end
Pushing for "yes" puts people on guard. "No" gives them a sense of control. And that's exactly when they relax and open up.
Label emotions before logic
Name what you're sensing: "It seems like this has been really frustrating." Naming the emotion doesn't inflame it. It shrinks it. Now they're ready to think — and deal.
The outcome
When people feel understood, they become flexible. That's when real agreements happen.

❓ One Question
Think of a negotiation you lost or avoided, what emotion in the other person did you never bother to name?
