Daily Leader Tip: WHY before the WHAT

As a Leader are you explaining why?

To your peers, to your customers, to your team.....

Specifically when:

➡️ You make decisions

➡️ Take a particular path

➡️ Make a change

➡️ Go against the norm

➡️ Say No

Why is this important?

The Why provides the story and background, the What provides the command and what we need to do. People feel motivated and inspired when they understand the story behind it and why it matters.

If you’ve gone straight in with “this is what we’re doing”, success is unlikely to follow.

✅ It adds a lot of colour to the situation or decision.

✅ The impacted parties may come to their own conclusions.

✅ Helps your team or your customer understand exactly the reason.

✅ It shows mutual respect and allows the team or customer to gain clarity on your decision to proceed down a certain path.

✅ You may have overlooked a critical detail that your team could point out to you.

✅ It will help your people buy into the decision and champion the change.
