Daily Leader Tip: Communicating to your Team
Communication as a leader is one of the most critical skills and has a profound effect on your team.
Try some of these ideas to become more effective:
➡️ Face time - get more face time with your team. Communicating face-to-face always wins over Slack. It helps develop a trusting and meaningful relationship. Slack is just words, it lacks tone, cues, intent and love.
➡️ Why - always explain the why behind decisions to your team, to your customers and to your friends. “Because we said so” or “that’s just the way things are" never ends well. Add colour to the situation by explaining the why or people will fill in the gaps themselves and that will never end well.
➡️ Language - how you describe things and how you talk about things has a massive impact on how it's received. Use positive language.
➡️ Listen - 2 ears and 1 mouth. Focus on doing more listening than speaking. You learn things when you listen, vs when you’re speaking you’re just sharing what you already know. Really listen to understand and not to respond.
➡️ Feedback - always deliver timely feedback which is direct but with the right spirit and intent. Your role as a leader is to notify your team member of their areas of opportunity so they can improve.
