Tackling a fixed minded team member
You've taken over a new team, what would you do first? What's your approach?
A meeting where you introduce yourself and let them introduce themselves. Be positive, confident, genuinely interested in them. Don't fake it. They can read it. Use humour.
If you can't have the meeting, introduce yourself 1-2-1, short punchy, but jump straight into asking about them! Show your sincere interest.

Hey all, super appreciate the invite to join the community. I am a past-president of the Appraisal Institute of Canada. Current role is as the Senior Assessor for our Provincial Government Department of Finance valuing commercial, special-use properties. A passion for leadership stretching back to junior-high school particularly servant-based leadership. I love building teams; inspiring stakeholders and team members through story telling (fan of Nancy Duarte); believer on ROWE (results only workplace expectations). Urban Land and Workforce Economics. Future of Work. I am a life-long learner, super curious and love to meet and chat with like-minded individuals.
Look forward to getting to know you, and learning from your experiences and methods.

I'm Jeff from NYC. I've had a career from jewelry manufacturing/luxury retail to Customer/technical support in tech SaaS products and the creator economy. Customers have trusted me because I've looked at the data that genuinely progresses them forward and where I don't rely on vanity metrics for those who follow like a religion such as NPS/CSAT. I'm looking to explore and learn from your mistakes so that I can envision a future of leadership for myself and a reality that doesn't stray away from people and where humanity isn't lost because of it.
Hi Jeff,
After having assessed hundreds of leadership personalities, I can confirm that we’re all unique, and what is good for one, might be too much for another. It's like recommending Trump to go to the confidence class. So I'd say, the first step is to have a clear picture what exactly you need to grow - a very specific individual growth map.

Hi, my name is Rusty. I've been in the Financial Services industry for 54 years after starting out as a Science teacher and Basketball/Baseball coach in Atlanta. I'm one of the 7 founders of our company and Executive Director and Founder of the R. H. Crossland Foundation which is a philanthropic organization and also owns and runs a historical document sports and history museum in Carefree, AZ which is free to the public. I am also the author of 3 books, the "ARTisms" series on leadership, motivation, and mentoring. I enjoy getting new ideas from these types of feeds that strengthen my knowledge and improve my messaging to our teams all across North America. Looking forward to hearing from all of you. RC
Hi everyone, I’m Davide
I’m originally from Naples and now based in Cambridge, UK.
I’ve spent most of my career in technology, working across software, engineering and leadership roles in organisations ranging from startups to the UN.
I’m an incurably curious builder. I tend to have several projects running at once, from publishing and media to entrepreneurship outside the technology world.
Great to meet you all.
Davide
Hello everyone, I’m Margo, joining from Warsaw, Poland.
I’ve spent most of my career working with people and organisations, and these days I work mainly with leaders and managers worldwide. I’m particularly interested in what makes leadership meaningful, how we navigate change and difficult decisions, and how we stay connected to what really matters while trying to perform and achieve. I’m here to learn, exchange experiences and meet people who are thinking about some of the same questions.
Looking forward to getting to know you all.
Welcome to our Community 👋
Glad to have you here.
This space is for something more interactive than a newsletter, a place to learn, ask questions, and grow as a manager alongside people doing the same work.
A few quick housekeeping notes:
Introduce yourself in the "start here" channel, who you are, what you manage, how many years in, what you're wrestling with right now
No self-promotion or advertising, this is a space for support, not selling
Be generous with what's worked (and hasn't) for you, the best communities run on people sharing openly
Looking forward to getting to know you. Jump in whenever you're ready.
Hello
My name is David, and I am the founder of House of Leadership.
Currently exploring new opportunities in software companies. Previously ran technical support departments and led organisation transformation.
Priorities, I am struggling to stick with 3 important things, when I have 10+ things pulling me away.
Based in West Sussex, in the UK!
Welcome Natalie! In Horsham.
Systems: build slots on my calendar which reoccur each week so the goal/priority just happens. Aim to do it for 60-90 days to get traction and see a return on the commitment. Without consistent daily/weekly steps it wont move forward.
New stuff: adding to a "parking" list on my Notion app to mentally close the loop on it. I get too excited about the plans/goals, and not enough time doing the thing.
